With 3/4 of the regular season done the Dolphins sit at 6-7 under 1st year coach Bob Selah. It has been a interesting season with the Dolphins trading away some talent and working to build the team around a new offense. Henne has been benched and the Dolphins tried to experiment with rookie QB Peter Tanico. But with no touchdowns and about 15 picks Tanico was cut . The Phins had traded a few weeks ago with Denver bringing in Kyle Orton and Willis McGahee for Reggie Bush and Jason Taylor.
Orton took some time even though he is a vet to watch and chart plays from the sidelines knowing his shot would eventually come once he had a firm grasp of the offense.
With the Dolphins in a 5 game losing slump and the team being outscored 131 -18 in that stretch and some tough games upcoming Coach Selah decided it was time to insert Orton into the lineup.
And the Dolphins have clicked with Orton at the helm. The Dolphins have taken down the 2nd ranked Raiders and the Newly 2nd ranked Eagles in consecutive weeks. In that 2 game stretch Orton has completed 18 out of 27 for 506 Yards throwing 4 TD's and 1 pick. Coach Selah has been impressed with Orton's decision making and he has grasped the offense better than expected. The Offensive line has also begun to jell surrendering only 3 sacks in that 2 game stretch against 2 powerful defenses.
The Dolphins hope to finish out the year strong and then begin preparing for the off-season. The Dolphins have 6 picks in the first 3 rounds of the upcoming draft including 3 first round selections. The year has been a wild ride said Coach Selah and we have made some trades sending off some real good players, but we are committed to bringing a winning franchise down here to South Florida.
Thats all for now from the Dolphins Radio network.
