As usual, this season will be Super Bowl or bust. We have won the West four seasons in a row, every single year we have won our first playoff game and then lost the 2nd. The last three seasons we have lost to the eventual SB Champ, and the last two seasons it hasnt been close. Once again we will be led by Chris Johnson on offense, CJ was last seasons OPOY runner up. And our defense will be led by Patrick Willis, last seasons DPOY runner up. I will now open it up to questions.
Coach, as you said, you havent been able to get that 2nd win in the playoffs. The league is grumbling that you really can only go so far with this style, do you agree?
OKO- Well I certainly believe that any style can win and any style can lose. We have lost to 3 Super Bowl champs, and we have really played poorly each time. If we play a great game, we feel like we can beat anybody. When we made Patrick Willis our GM, we knew he would build the team for a defense and build an offense to control the ball and not make mistakes. We have the blueprint now, and we are committed to this style. At this point with our roster, we would need a complete overhaul to play any other way, so there really isnt any point talking about what ifs.
Coach, talk about the offseason moves. Who we added and who we lost.
OKO- Well the offseason was pretty simple. We swapped Donte Whitner for Laron Landry. We swapped Cutler for Colin Kaepernick and we swapped Justin Tuck for Jared Allen. We also added CB Shareece Wright in a draft day trade for our 1st rounder. Sending away Tuck, Cutler, and Whitner in one trade was interesting. We felt their league value or OVR, was not what we saw on the field. Tuck had 14 tackles and 6 sacks all season, Whitner created 4 turnovers in the first 5 games and then created 0 in our final 13, and obviously Cutler was underused in our offense.
We are hoping for an immediate impact with our new additions. We have been trying to bring in Landry for years. He is the only player with more career tackles than the man who finally traded for him, our GM P Willie. Landry also leads all defensive backs in FF, and we dont mind saying we expect an enormous impact from our back line on defense. We were the team that drafted Colin Kaepernick and we are happy to have him back. He will lead our offense and we hope he makes smart plays and decisions. He also adds a new dimension to our team with an ability to make plays with his legs. Then we also added Jared Allen and CB Wright, they will be asked to fit in and just do their jobs.
Coach, can you tell us about 49er Fan Day?
OKO- We invite the fans to meet the team and the highlights of the day are the team race, the LB race, and the also the new hitting machine, that measures the hit power of our defenders.
And what were the results?
OKO- The race this year went to Delency Kilgo (99 spd, 99 acc) by a hair ahead of CJ (99 spd, 99 acc). Utek and Lira finished 3rd and 4th (98 spd). The linebacker races were close and it went to Patrick Willis. Moch dropped off a hair from his top speed of 91 to 90. We had 4 linebackers top out the same (90 spd), but Willis pulled it out with the best acceleration. The new hit power test had a surprise winner in SS Lockett at 99 out of a possible 99. Landry (97), Willis (95), Simmons (94), and Moch and Stone were in the mix at 92. Those guys beat the hell out of that hit machine and ballcarriers are gonna take some licks this season.
