PostSubject: SF Midseason Report   SF Midseason Report Icon_minitimeWed Apr 25, 2012 2:16 am

Oko- Were 5-3, once again our running game and CJ have been very good and our passing game has been pretty bad. On defense we are ranked 2nd in ppg against and 2nd in ypg against. But the lack of big plays, sacks, takeaways and dropped picks have plagued this defense in the 1st half. We have some nice victories and some bad losses, it has been a roller coaster and we hope for some more consistency. Now lets open it up for questions.

Reporter- Rumor is the team completed a deadline trade for rookie QB Hollingsworth, can you comment on that, what that will mean for the passing game and Colin Kaepernick?

Oko- This is correct, and Hollingsworth was acquired and will be given the chance to start right away. We think his big arm will be a better fit for our system than the mobile Kaepernick. Because we face so many blitzes, the scrambling of Colin has been non existent and our qb has to get the job done from the pocket, usually under heavy pressure. The passing attack has been horrid. We dont like to throw alot, but when we have to, or need to, it has not been there. Colin has been inaccurate, and our recievers have done a very poor job of beating coverage and hanging onto the ball.

Reporter- Your defense is 2nd in yards and points, but you have been very critical of them, what needs to improve and who needs to improve?

Oko- We hold our defense to a very very high standard. We have let a ton of chances get away, and turnovers are way down. We need to hang onto picks and start creating more turnovers with fumbles. We have several players with a track record, that had a turnover outage in the 1st half.

Reporter- Who specifically?

Oko- Ill start with Patrick Willis, he had 27 turnovers created in 3 seasons and had 1 in the 1st half, and several drops. Then Laron Landry had 24 turnovers in 3 seasons, and also sits at 1 this year, and has a well documented 13 dropped picks. Deangelo Hall has 27 picks in 3 seasons, and has 2 this year. Carter Stone led all DTs last season with 10 sacks, and he just recorded his 1st in game 8.

Reporter- Arent you holding a very good defense to an almost impossible standard?

Oko- I dont think so. If we are gonna win, we have to be almost perfect defensively. Willis, Landry and the others will be the first to tell you that the production has to come up or this team isnt going anywhere.

Reporter- You have talked about the lack of turnovers on D and the awful pass game on O, but this is a 1st place team, what has gone right?

Oko- Obviously our run game on O and Chris Johnson is our workhorse. CJ is averaging 199 yards per game and is on pace for over 400 touches and over 3000 yards from scrimmage. Our Oline makes him go, and also our other players love to block for CJ. Josh Morgan is the best run blocking WR in the league and maybe of all time, and Leonard Weaver has been great at FB. Defensively we have been very good at times. Our 3 linebackers with 90 spd have been very good all year long. They stop the run and cover the pass better than any unit the league. Our corners have also done a very good job this season in man coverage, especially since our pass rush never gets there, they are asked to cover for a long time, and they always do.

Reporter- What should we expect in the 2nd half?

Oko- The 2 things we hope for are that the QB change sparks our pass game, and that the turnovers return to our players averages. If these 2 things happen, we could be very dangerous, if they dont, then we will continue to grind it out with more of the same type games.

We will now open it up to outside questions from around the league...

Coach Oko, any comments about the decrease in Kilgo's productivity on the field and the concerns regarding his durability?

Kilgo has yet to produce to his potential, and he will be the first to tell you that. It has not been all on Kilgo, we think he could have a long catch or two in every single game, but our protection and quarterback play have not allowed that to happen. When Kilgo is on the field he is always a threat, and that is why he was selected highly.

As far as his durability, that has been a concern since college, that we hoped would be solved by now. He is still often injured and he continues to work with our strength and conditioning coach on his durability.

Next question...

Coach, any comments about the League office stepping in and denying your trade for QB Hollingsworth?
